LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Four years after an earthquake ripped through Louisa County High School, damaging it beyond repair as you can see, students are getting ready to step into a brand new building for the first day of school today.
It’s been four, long years in the making and finally, students will walk through the front doors of their new school today.
Students got a sneak peek on Sunday at a dedication ceremony. Some said they were really impressed with the huge gym and library, which is outfitted with 3D printers.
These are the same students that have been attending class in trailers after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake destroyed their school in 2011, devastating the community. Students say seeing this new building shows them Louisa County High School can’t be shaken anymore.
“I think we’re stronger now,” senior Brent Clough says. “We can stand up to challenges that come our way. The excitement and energy is unbelievable.”
