CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A King and Queen County man is charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer after allegedly purposefully hitting a Caroline County Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigator.
On June 10, Caroline County Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle as part of a drug investigation on Elevon Road in the Champlain area of Caroline County. After a positive alert from a narcotic detecting K-9, an investigator approached the driver’s door and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle.
Police say that the driver then turned the vehicle sharp left, placed the car in drive and quickly accelerated, spinning the tires of the car. The investigator reported being pulled by the car for a short distance before pushing himself away from the vehicle. A second investigator had approached the passenger window at the beginning of the traffic stop and was able to convince the driver to stop after the first investigator was free from the car.
A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly recovered $4,200 worth of what is believed to be crack cocaine, suspected marijuana and more than $3,000 in cash.
Carl Harvey, 39, of St. Stephens Church, was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer, eluding and possession of marijuana. He is being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail under no bond.
Robert Harvey, 59, of St. Stephens Church, was a passenger in the vehicle and was charged with possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. He is being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail under an $8500.00 bond.
