HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WRIC) – A Henrico community came together Friday night to raise money for a reward fund to find whoever murdered Mike Margeret and his girlfriend Donna Hall 31 years ago. Bar Louie hosted the fundraiser.
“It’s very raw, very raw still. It’s a gut, like a kick in the gut every time I think about it,” said Robert Lipford, a friend of the couple.
“It really hit everybody, I think it struck the entire community,” said Jim Herring, Donna’s friend.
The pair was stabbed repeatedly in a wooded area near Patterson Avenue and Gaskins Road.
“We were just kids,” said Lipford.
Donna had just graduated from Douglas Freeman High School. Mike was a J.R. Tucker graduate.
Their friend Lipford was with the two the night they disappeared.
“They came over for a small get-together with some friends, and we were all hanging out, having a good time. And they left us…said they were going camping, and we never saw them again,” he recalled.
“A lot of people have started to come forward. We want to solve this case, we want to close this case. And we want closure for the families and closure for us because we knew these people,” said Herring.
Friends are hoping a Facebook page and reward fund will generate new tips.
“We’re just very hopeful that something will finally come of this after all these years,” said Lipford.
“We as a family have not stopped. And as you can see, this community has not stopped. It will be solved,” said Scott Margaret, Mike’s brother.
Henrico investigators have been looking at new leads and are re-examining blood from the scene since DNA testing has come a long way since 1984.
“Makes us feel really wonderful that Mike and Donna have not been forgotten,” said Margaret.
“What they’re doing is great, it’s a blessing,” said Allyson Lucas, Mike’s sister.
