RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — On Thursday, Richmond city leaders opened a brand new pre-school in the east end of the city.
The new Martin Luther King Jr. Preschool Learning Center is located at 900 Mosby Street. When kids walk into the classrooms in September, they will have new technology to complement their learning. There will be smart boards in every single classroom.
It’s a moment one teacher, who’s been an educator for 45 years, has been waiting for.
“I know there is going to be a lot of learning, fun learning, and so much learning that our kids will be able to skip elementary and go to middle school,” says Frances Evans, a pre-school teacher.
After three years of construction, a new generation of four and five-year-olds will have a brand new school in their own neighborhood, and not scattered throughout the city.
“We’ve been intentional in making sure that some things have happened in neighborhoods that don’t usually get the investment of capital dollars,” says Mayor Dwight Jones.
Even though classes start September 14, parents are still able to register their children.
