NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A baby was almost run over by an SUV in Newport News, after police say his own father placed him in the middle of a street.
Officers arrested 26-year-old Tyrell Jones after they say he put his 1-year-old son in the middle of West 29th Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say this started as an argument between Jones and his wife.
At one point, police say a vehicle came within several feet of the baby. Police say when the child’s mother went to rescue the 1-year-old, Jones hit her multiple times.
He is charged with child neglect and assault and battery.
