The Tuesday through Thursday time frame relies heavily on the eventual track of Tropical Storm Erika, which could develop into a Hurricane over the weekend in the Bahamas. The strengthening will come as it interacts with the Gulf Stream and the 90 degrees plus water, it will mover over. While yesterday the official track took Hurricane Erika into south Florida by Monday morning, we stated numerous times that a lot might change with that path and this morning’s new weather models have shown a significant shift in that path. The current indications are for Erika to hit the Gulf Stream and rapidly intensify into a Hurricane and then move up between Florida and the Bahamas on a course that would have an impact between Charleston, South Carolina and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. A track of this nature could bring rain from Erika into Central Virginia from Wednesday into Thursday. Please keep in mind that we are looking at a system that is 6 to7 days away and there are many factors that have to come to fruition before we can firmly say that we will be impacted by Erika.
At this point, it is prudent to continue to watch the latest forecast and track of Erika through Today, Friday and the upcoming weekend.
