CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield church is struck not once but twice in two days.
“In the world we live in today churches are no longer sacred places,” said pastor Erik Davidson of Lyndale Baptist Church.
Davidson says a few weeks ago someone broke the window to the church office, tried to get into locked drawers, pried open the door to his office, and stole cash and the church’s camcorder.
“We had just had our 50th anniversary and we had it taped on there so they stole our memories which hurts us more than the camcorder does,” said Davidson.
Davidson says he felt dismayed, and less than 24 hours later, burglars broke the basement window, and stole a 50″ flat screen TV. They also tried to break into a trailer in the back, but were unsuccessful. Davidson says he found out about the second break in as he was preparing for Sunday’s service.
“Really felt violated, really got me in a bad spirit so I had to come up here and separate myself and just concentrate and give myself to the Lord,” said Davidson.
The pastor says they’ve contacted several security companies and have spoken to police about things they can do to protect themselves. He had this message for people that may know who did this and are thinking of coming forward.
“Trust your instincts, the Lord’s speaking to you and if you happen to pick up a camcorder and there’s a church service on there, it’s ours, and we’d love to have it back,” said Davidson.
