RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — On Wednesday, The Wildlife Center of Virginia (WCV) released a Bald Eagle successfully back into the wild at Widewater State Park in Stafford County.
A crowd of about 100 people attended the release, including the homeowners who initially reported the injured eagle, and the animal control officer who rescued the bird.
The eagle released is an adult female, was found on the ground, unable to fly near Widewater on May 10. An animal control officer captured the eagle and transported it to the Wildlife Center in Waynesboro.
The female eagle is the 642nd patient of 2015. She received a complete physical examination, including radiographs and blood work. Veterinary staff found that the eagle had a broken talon and several superficial foot lacerations and was unable to fly.
The Widlife Center are waiting for the bird’s GPS transmitter data to be added to their tracking account. Once they have access, they will post tracking updates on their Eagle Tracking page.
