2 men rescued after scaffolding falls from downtown Richmond construction site

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two workers were left hanging from the side of a building after some scaffolding fell at a downtown Richmond construction site on Wednesday.

The incident happened at a construction site on Broad Street near 11th Street and the VCU Children’s Pavilion.

Richmond Fire crews tell 8News that one end of the scaffold dropped down, leaving two workers dangling in harnesses. One worker was six feet over the roof’s edge. The other worker was 15 feet over the roof’s edge.

Some workers still on the roof threw an additional rope to the dangling men to rescue them.

One man was treated and released. The other was taken to hospital to be evaluated. It appears that the workers were not injured.

Broad Street was closed for about an hour but has since reopened.

We have an 8News crew on scene. Stay with 8News for more on this developing story.
