RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — We’ve learned what caused the death of Javon Antoine Morris, one of three former inmates at Richmond’s city jail who each died within a week’s span earlier this summer.

Morris, 38, along with 22-year-old Shawn Samuel and 28-year-old Zachary Tuggle, all died within 72 hours of each other while serving time inside the city jail in mid July.

On Wednesday, Richmond Sheriff C.T. Woody released Morris’ autopsy results, which verified the Medical Examiner’s preliminary report that suggested  the 38-year-old died of natural causes.

The Medical Examiner’s final report determined Morris’ cause to be coronary artery atherosclerosis.

“We understand the concern as well as the public interest in the results of all three of these autopsy reports,” Sheriff Woody said. “The autopsy reports for Shawn Samuel and Zachary Tuggle are still pending at this time, but we will release those results once the Medical Examiner’s reports have been received.”
