RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A major golf event is headed to Richmond.

The PGA announced plans to bring the pros and their fans to our community.

The PGA Champions Tour will play at the Country Club of Virginia in November of 2016.

This will be the first PGA Tour event in Richmond in 25 years.

It’s expected to bring thousands of spectators and millions of dollars to our area.”

The Dominion Charity Classic will be a playoff event for golfers on the fifty and over tour.

“I think folks will find out it’s more than a golf tournament. It’s an opportunity to give back to raise money to help people,” explained PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem.

The event is expected to attract as many as 50,000 spectators.

Champions Tour player and Richmond native Bobby Wadkins added, “With the support of everyone behind us, we can make this a win win situation for everyone and it’ll make Richmond look fantastic.”

Golf fan Bill King believes the event will give Richmond something you can’t put a price on and that’s exposure.

“It’s a wonderful thing for the city. This will give us a visibility amongst the golfers in this country and in fact in the world that they haven’t seen before,” said King.

In addition to bringing an air of excitement to Richmond, this event will also give back to a charitable organization that helps military veterans find jobs.

The Dominion Charity Classic will be played October 31st through November 16th.
