Great 8 Happenings: Chesterfield County Fair, Harvest Wine Festival, Richmond historic tours and so much more

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Labor Day weekend is full of events for adults and the little ones! The Chesterfield County Fair is still going on, but you only have Friday and Saturday to attend before it’s over.  Enjoy some fine wine at the Harvest Wine Festival or go watch a film on the history of tattooing at the VMFA’s Tattoo Arts and Film Festival.

FRIDAY

  •  The 102nd Chesterfield County Fair: It’s not too late to take your friends or family to the fair! It ends tomorrow, September 5. The fair is sure to be a good time for kids and adults! Enjoy some fun rides, and yummy fair food & treats.
    • Where: Chesterfield County Fairgrounds at 10300 Courthouse Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832
    • When: August 28 – September 5
    • Price: Children under 3-years-old get in free
      • Ages 4-12 cost $5 a ticket
      • Adults 13-59 cost $9 a ticket
      • Seniors 60 & up cost $7 a ticket
  • Tattoo Arts and Film Festival: If you’re into tattoos or art, then the is for you!  The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will present the only major Tattoo Arts and Film Festival in Virginia. This event will honor the rich history and tradition of tattooing and its enduring and evolving impact on contemporary visual culture. The two-day festival will include feature films plus a session exploring Japanese anime, talks by world-renowned experts, gallery tours, and more.
    • Where: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 200 N Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220
    • When: September 4, 3:00 – 9:30 p.m. & September 5, 10:30 am – 5 pm
    • Price: Individual films: $8 for general admission, $5 for VMFA members

SATURDAY

  • Harvest Wine Festival: This will be the 10th Annual Harvest Wine Festival! Enjoy listening to live music, taste wines from all the Colonial Wine Trail wineries, attend wine 101 seminar, join in on a tour, visit with craft vendors and check out our food truck court.
    • Where: James River Cellar Winery, 11008 Washington Hwy. Glen Allen, VA 23059
    • When: September 5, 12- 5 p.m.
    • Price: Tickets are $20 a person
  • Downtown Richmond Historic Walking Tour- Civil War/ Civil Rights Emphasis: The tour starts off at the Richmond Region Visitor’s Center on 3rd and Marshall St. We’ll walk around the down town and your guide will show you several monumental sights including: – The State Capitol Building – the oldest standing state capitol in and the first Neo-Classical building in the United States
    – The statues of Capitol Square
    – The White House of the Confederacy – where Jefferson Davis lived when he was leader of the Confederate Government
    – The John Marshall House
    – Two of the unknown architectural gems of Richmond: the Victorian Gothic Old City Hall, and Egyptian Revivalist Egyptian Building
    – The thriving early 20th Century African American community of Jackson Ward
    – And much, much more.
    • Where: You will meet the tour guide at the Richmond Region Visitor’s Center, 405 North 3rd Street, Richmond, VA 23219
    • When: September 5, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    • Price: General Admission tickets cost $20, Student ticket (Must have student ID): $15, Teen tickets (12-17): $5, Child admission (Children 11 and under): Free

SUNDAY

  • Music in the Park: Enjoy a relaxing night out at Forest Hill Park.  There will be a live performance by Elana Lisa and the Hot Mess.
    • Where: Forrest Hill Park, 4021 Forrest Hill Avenue, Richmond, Va.
    • When: September 4, 5 – 7 p.m.
    • Price: FREE
