WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The dying wish of Brittany Dillard has come true.
Dillard died on Christmas Eve at Vanderbilt’s Children’s Hospital after a brief illness.
She wanted a scoreboard put on the soccer field at White House Heritage High School where she played on the girls’ soccer team.
The scoreboard was purchased at cost from a donor and installed for free by Joslin and Sons Signs.
It was dedicated Thursday night at the girls’ soccer game against Harpeth High School.
Dillard would have been a freshman at the school this year.
“It was just super fun playing with her and watching her play,” teammate Callie Roach said. “She was always so strong even though she wasn’t the biggest person but she played like it.”
Fellow teammate Meagan Smith added, “She was definitely a big light on the field. She was hilarious. If we were having a rough day, she would be a light.”
Her parents were at the game to see the dedication of the scoreboard. The field is now named Dillard Field in Brittany’s honor.
“She loved playing soccer,” her father Jason Dillard said. “She felt the school needed a scoreboard and she talked about it when she played.”
The Dillards worked along with family, friends and teammates to raise the funds for the scoreboard.
“We plan on doing some more fundraisers,” Dillard said. “They need more bleachers and they need to get the lights paid for on the field.”
The team surprised the Dillards with her jersey, No. 24.
“She was just very outgoing,” teammate Preslee Nickens said. “Whenever you were around her, she just lit up whatever room she was in.”
She continued, “She was the kind of person you wanted to be around all the time.”
