Showers expected tonight, Thursday morning

A cold front is moving in over the area and that is going to set us up for unsettled weather in the area for the next few days.  Tonight we will have a round of showers with locally heavy downpours early, and then some late night showers with the front right on top of us by early Thursday.  It will be very humid with lows in the upper 60s to the middle 70s.

Thursday, as the front drops slowly through the area, it will be cloudy with showers likely.  Highs will struggle to make it back into the lower to middle 80s.  Cooler and drier air will filter in for Thursday night.  That will leave us with mostly cloudy skies and overnight lows falling back into the middle 60s.

Friday is our “break” day.  A pocket of dry air will pass over us allowing for partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower to middle 80s.   This looks like it sets us up for a nice day and a good evening for the high school football games and the Xfinity race out at RIR

Saturday is a different story.  A “wave” of low pressure will develop along the front and move right back in over us.  It will be mostly cloudy and by late in the afternoon and the evening hours showers and thunderstorms look to be likely at this time.  That means if you are headed to the UVA-Notre Dame game or to the NASCAR race on Saturday night, have the rain gear with you as the forecast does not look favorable for either.

Shower could linger into Sunday, but things should clear in the afternoon with highs in the upper 70s.  Monday through Thursday of next week look fine and dandy with dry and comfortable with highs in the upper 70s and the lower 80s.
