AMELIA CO., Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond man was killed after being hit by a car while changing a tire in Amelia County Saturday night.

The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Route 360 west, roughly one half-mile east of Route 698.

According to Virginia State Police, two men were changing a tire on a disabled 1996 Mercury Tracer when a 2006 Ford van stopped with its flashers on to help with lighting. A 2007 Pontiac then approached and struck the Ford van in the rear before veering off to the right and striking one of the men changing the tire, 26-year-old Travious Donque Garrison, who died at the scene.

The driver of the van and eight other passengers were all wearing seat belts and were not injured. The driver of the Pontiac, 24-year-old Spencer A. Ballou of Crewe, was taken by a family member to St. Francis hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the accident and say charges are pending.
