RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As the the UCI Road World Championships approach, many road closures will also impact the time your trash will be collected.

The Richmond’s department of Public Works says workers will have to start trash pick-up around 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday next week. The exact dates are September 21 to September 24.

Some trash pick-up hours normally start around 5 a.m.

“We know it may be a little noisy, people don’t generally hear our trucks in the neighborhood at 2 o’clock in the morning, or 3 o’ clock in the morning, but we are just asking everyone to bear with us for those few days,” says Sharon North, with the Department of Public Works.

On one block in the Museum District where trash was piling up on Tuesday, some residents say the early wake-up inconvenience during the  race are worth the compromise to ensure their trash is collected.

“Well, it’s temporary. I don’t think it’s going to last very long, and so we can accommodate that,” says Alisha Byrd, a Richmond resident.

“If it’s earlier in the morning, I guess that’s fine because it’s  just one week , because if it was two weeks of trash right there, I mean, it would block the side walk” says Meredith Makhoul who also lives in Richmond.
