Reports: Gov. Scott Walker to drop out of race for president

Gov. Scott Walker will hold a news conference at 5 p.m. in Madison, according to a campaign advisory sent to media outlets.

The New York Times and numerous other media outlets are reporting that Gov. Walker is ending his 2016 run for the White House. After a strong start to his campaign, the governor has fallen in recent Republican polls.

The latest CNN/ORC poll shows Walker with support of less than one-half a percentage point of Republicans surveyed.

The Times quotes three Republicans familiar with the governor, speaking on condition of anonymity.

One source said the governor’s decision was based on money.

Gov. Walker would become the second Republican candidate to end his campaign for 2016. Former Texas governor Rick Perry previously dropped out of the race.

The news conference will be held at the Edgewater hotel at 5 p.m.
