CAROLINE COUNTY, Va (WRIC)- With the arrival of fall comes the state Fair of Virginia. On Friday, September 25, the gates will open for 10 days of Ferris wheels, farm animals and funnel cakes.
Set-up crews worked around the clock for more than a week to welcome thousands to the fair grounds. There will be an estimated 400 hours of performances, 2,500 animals, and about 13,000 corn dogs served, according to organizers.
In keeping with tradition, it would not be opening weekend without some rain in the forecast. Organizers say rain or shine, there will be plenty to keep fair-goers entertained.
“If that happens; we have over 60,000 feet of shopping in the Farm Bureau Center,” said Sarah Hallett, marketing manager at The Meadow Event Park. “Several of our attractions are covered, including the racing pigs, young McDonald’s farm which is hugely popular, and also chicks, cows and the birthing center.”
Tickets range from $7 to $12 dollars. Gates open at 10 a.m. September 25. On opening night there will be a wristband special. Fair-goers can get into the fair after 5 p.m. for five dollars.
