CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The rides, the games, and of course, the food; it’s everything that makes the fair what it is.

And this year, Virginia State Fair goers have some new treats to look forward to, like the decadent deep fried delight ‘Fry Me Over the Moon’.

Tim Mayfield makes them at his stand and says it’s a combination of “A moon pie, a Hostess cup cake, three Oreos and a Reese’s cup. I’ve tried it myself, It’s very delicious, very rich.”

And there’s a new fair favorite this year, deep fried butter.

Robert Stevenson explains how it keeps it’s shape: “Well, we make a home-made special batter for it, freeze it, batter it, stick it. It shields it, keeps it from melting all the way. To the outside we add cinnamon, powdered sugar and caramel on top.”

In case you want something a little meatier, check out the new Boston Butt fries.

“It is french fries with pulled pork, cheese, sour cream and scallions.”, says Cierra Alderman with Hog Wild BBQ.

They’ve also got their famous bull fries, made with beef brisket, but the food isn’t all that’s new this year.

There are also plenty of new rides to try out, too.

VA State Fair Spokesperson Sherri McKinney says, “Some of the new rides we have this year are the Convoy, the Magic Maze, the arm tractors and of course, the Mini Scrambler, which is always a traditional yet fun twist on a classic.”

And, special for opening night, it’s all you can ride for just five dollars.

The state fair is on until October 4th.
