Rainy first weekend of Fall; Condition improve late Monday into Tuesday

Strong high pressure over the northeast will lock in a storm system that will be stuck spinning just off the Virginia coastline; this pattern will then result in a soggy weekend across the region. Look for rain, heavy at times today, a breeze out of the northeast and temperatures remaining stuck in the 60s for most of us. Rainfall amounts will be impressive, especially southeast of Richmond where some spots will see 2-4” by the time all is said and done.

The unsettled pattern will be a long duration one, keeping showers in our forecast right into Monday. As for spectators heading into downtown to watch the UCI races today, pack the rain gear, you are going to need it! Conditions finally start to improve late Monday into Tuesday, with some breaks of sunshine returning and temperatures briefly shooting back up to around 80.

Notice I said briefly because another storm system will take aim at the region and bring another shot of moderate to heavy rain for Wednesday into Thursday. It is that time of year! Looking further down the line, it looks like next weekend may finally bring a return to pleasant, Autumn weather here in Virginia.
