RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) – Parking restrictions on Cary Street and the Boulevard begin at 1 a.m. on Sunday, September 27. Towing will be enforced on Cary Street from 195 (the Downtown Expressway) to the Boulevard and also along the Boulevard’s northbound lanes in preparation for Sunday’s Elite Men’s Road Race which starts at the University of Richmond.
Road closures for the UCI Road World Championships on Sunday, September 27 will begin at 7 a.m. and be completed by 8 a.m. before the Elite Men’s Road Race begins at 9 a.m. This race starts at the University of Richmond by the lake. The peloton travels from the lake up Richmond Way to Campus Drive and then Boatwright Drive to Three Chopt Road. The cyclists then head south to Cary Street and east on Cary Street to the Boulevard. From there, the peloton heads north on the Boulevard to Monument Avenue where the cyclists enter the Road Circuit course. After the peloton passes through the streets leading to the Road Circuit course, these streets will be reopened on a rolling basis. The Road Circuit course, however, will remain closed during the race.
Areas significantly impacted by road closures include the Fan, VCU Monroe Park Campus, downtown, Church Hill and Tobacco Row.
This 162 mile race finishes at Fifth and Broad streets downtown at approximately 3:40 p.m. Roads are expected to fully reopen by 4:40 p.m.
