CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC/AP) — The man charged with killing two Virginia college students is due in court today.

Jesse L. Matthew Jr. was already facing capital murder charges in the killing of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham when he was indicted by a grand jury this month in the 2009 slaying of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.

The 33-year-old defendant is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Albemarle County Circuit Court for a motions hearing in the Graham case. The court is also expected to hold a status hearing on the Harrington case.

On Tuesday in northern Virginia, a former girlfriend of Matthew said he was raped as a child. Earlier this year, Matthew was convicted of sexual assault in Fairfax County for attacking a woman back in 2005.

Matthew is set to be sentenced in the Fairfax case this Friday. He could get life in prison.

Attorneys for Matthew are asking a judge to consider his difficult upbringing before sentencing.

8News will have a crew in the courtroom. Stay with us for the latest developments.
