Heat wave continues, no real relief in sight

We’re well into a prolonged heat wave impacting our area and there is no real relief in sight. In fact, temperatures will only get warmer as we go through the next few days! This weekend the main concern will be for some strong to severe thunderstorms as a result of the remnants of what once was Tropical Storm Bill.

The added rotation and energy in the atmosphere coupled with hot and humid air in place will provide an excellent environment for thunderstorms to develop and an added risk that they will turn severe with damaging winds, hail and blinding downpours. The time frame to be weather alert today will be from 6p-11p Saturday. After we get ‘Bill’ out of here the headlines will once again be filled with heat related points. We turn dangerously hot by Monday with highs in the upper 90s, Tuesday will be the hottest day so far, temperatures region wide will likely surpass 100° with heat indices in the 103-107° range.

Some slight relief arrives by midweek with a cold front but it will only drop our temperatures in the lower 90s. A better shot at some soaking, prolonged rainfall by next weekend. Enjoy your weekend and stay cool!
