Despite forecast, Dominion crews preparing for the worst

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Dominion’s meteorologists and operational managers are working hand in hand as both try to forecast the weather and where resources will be needed as rains begin to fall across central Virginia.

“We’re balancing what the forecast looks like it might be with where we’re going to pre-deploy crews to be ready to respond,” said Dominion spokesman David Botkins.

The company has already put employees on notice and is preparing for the worst, asking them to get ready so they can be prepared to help customers should massive power outages be a problem.

“We put out communications to employees so that they know they could be called upon at a moment’s notice,” said Botkins.

But Dominion is also asking customers to help by preparing emergency kits, and looking at things like tree limbs that can be taken care of before the storm.

“If they’ve already got trees that they would consider a danger tree or something that is vulnerable to falling with high winds to go ahead and have a tree contractor take care of that,” said Botkins.

Dominion says if storms hit and you do lose power, call them immediately and report it, don’t rely on the company or anyone else to know your power needs to be restored.

“Don’t just assume because your lights are out in your subdivision that your neighbor is going to be the one to report it,” said Botkins.

They also say if you see a downed power line, stay away and give them a call, as it could be energized and a safety issue.

To report an outage, call Dominion at 1-866-366-4357. To view Dominion’s power outages map, click here.
