RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As of 2 a.m. Friday, Hurricane Joaquin has winds of 130 mph and is a Category 4 Hurricane.
It is a very strong hurricane and it is going to start to shift northward this morning. It will then begin to increase in its forward speed as it moves north and then northeast. This path will move it more than 500 miles east of Richmond and with that type of track, there will be no impact in our weather from Joaquin.
The rain that we are seeing today is from a cold front which is stuck overhead. This front will bring us rain, steady to heavy at times throughout the day and tonight. There is no two ways about it, if you don’t bring your umbrella or rain jacket today you will get soaked! We will see roughly a half inch to an inch of rain today across central Virginia. The heaviest of the rain will push west by tomorrow morning but we will still be in for a wet day with light rain off and on throughout the day.
Rain will continue for Saturday night and early Sunday. When it is all said and done, we could pick up between 2” to 3” of rain from today through Sunday night.
Finally, as Joaquin pulls farther out to sea it will allow this cold front to finally move out and end our rainy weather. We will see partly sunny skies, slowly return on Monday with sunny skies returning for Tuesday through next Friday!
