Great 8 Happenings: VCU Broad Street Mile, Oystoberfest and Kickin’ Chicken Wingfest

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The VCU Broad Street Mile returns to for its third year.  Participants will be able to enjoy a free festival, compete in a series of 1-mile fun runs or a 5K, and raise money for local charities. This event is for all ages and fitness levels. There will be fun runs that include the Spirit Mile, Kids Mile, No Limits Mile, Senior Mile and Doggie Dash.

  • When: Saturday, October 17 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Where: Broad Street between Belvidere Street and Hermitage Road
  • How much: Free

SATURDAY

  • Oystoberfest: If you’re an oyster lover than this event is for you!  Enjoy live music, beer, Bratwurst, and of course oysters. This year’s oyster partner is Rappahannock River Oyster CompanyThey will have raw and steamed oysters.  You can enjoy dozen raw or steamed oysters for $14, 1/2 dozen raw or steamed oysters for $8, 1/2 dozen fried oysters for $8.
    • When: Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    • Where: St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Historic Ginter Park, 3602 Hawthorne Avenue, Richmond, Va 2322
    • How much: Free admission, food will be available to purchase

SUNDAY

  • Kickin’ Chicken Wingfest: What’s better than friends, chicken wings, beer, and football on a Sunday?  Well this event will have all that and more. Enjoy food and drinks from more than 20 local restaurants including Mama J’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Alamo BBQ, En Su Boca, The Grapevine, On The Rox, and Shockoe Whiskey and Wine. NFL games will be playing on big screen TV’s in two designated dining tent areas. A DJ will also be there to help entertain the crowd.
    • When: Sunday, October 18. 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Where: 17th Street Farmers Market, Richmond, Va
    • How much: Free admission, food will be available to purchase
