STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human skeletal remains were found in a wooded area off of Mine Road near Highpointe Boulevard.

According to authorities, deputies responded to the area near Mine Road around 6:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of human skeletal remains found in the woods. Two people practicing their bow hunting skills there came across a human skull and some additional human bones in the area.
“It was clear that the remains had been there for a long period of time,” the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Detectives are currently investigating. Once Stafford County authorities complete their initial investigation at the scene, the remains will be sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for possible identification and cause of death.
