MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (KRON) — It’s the latest creative and cozy way to save money in the absurd Bay Area, California housing environment.
A 23-year-old Google engineer from Massachusetts, who wants to be known only as Brandon, is living in a box truck. It is parked in one of the company’s Mountain view lots, so he can save 90 percent of his salary and pay off student loans.
He paid $10,000 for the 128-square-foot truck. His signing bonus took care of that.
And while he’s not saying, he probably makes close to $100,000 a year — that’s a lot of savings. His only monthly expense is insurance on the truck
He showers and eats all three meals at Google. They are free, of course. The box truck is mainly just for sleeping.
