RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond City Council Compensation Review Advisory Committee will hold a meeting to receive public input regarding the review of how Richmond City Council members are paid on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m in the City Council Chambers.
The meeting is free and open to the public and all Richmond residents are invited and encouraged to attend to offer comments and suggestions to the committee.
The Richmond City Council Compensation Review Advisory Committee was established by Ordinance No. 2015-160-172 (adopted September 14, 2015 and is available on the Council website, at http://eservices.ci.richmond.va.us/…/clerkstrac…/getPDF.asp…). Council members currently earn $25,000 annually and the council president earns $27,000.
The highest paid local representatives in the state are in Fairfax County, which has a population of 1.1 million and pays supervisors $75,000 annually.Locally, Chesterfield County pays its supervisors $35,091 a year and Henrico County pays $49,826 a year.
Critics have questioned the deep political connections of those who will serve on the eight-member committee.
