RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond Police detective returned a stolen dog to her rightful owner.

Syrah, a Chihuahua mix, was the talk of social media in the Forest Hills and Forest View neighborhoods over the past week after she escaped from her yard.

Shortly after the pup made a break for it, a neighbor found her and posted on a neighborhood Facebook page and Craigslist in hopes of finding the owner. A woman who said she was the owner showed up with a leash and harness, tricking the helpful neighbor into believing she was Syrah’s owner.

Syrah’s owner discovered the neighbor’s post later that day and responded only to learn a stranger had taken her dog.

Davette D. Jones, 27, of the 2200 block of Chateau Drive, was arrested Thursday and charged with grand larceny in connection to the case of the stolen pooch.

Thanks to Third Precinct Detective Ryan Nixon, she’s found her way home.

Detective Nixon worked tirelessly for three days to find the pooch. On Wednesday, he found Syrah. The pup thanked him with a big kiss before she was reunited with her owner.
