Case against man charged in deadly Grove Ave. crash turned over to grand jury Monday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The man charged in the crash that killed a local diplomat and award winning author appeared in court Monday in Richmond.

Robert Gentil faces an involuntary manslaughter charge for the accident on Grove Avenue that killed 64-year-old Elizabeth Pryor.

On Monday, Gentil waived his right to a preliminary hearing. The case was then handed over to a grand jury.

Back in April, police say Gentil was driving as fast as 100 miles per hour when he collided with Pryor’s vehicle. She was killed on impact.

Prosecutors say Gentil told police he was trying to take off like an airplane when he went speeding down Grove Avenue before the crash. Gentil’s attorney says his client is mentally ill and was manic at the time of the cras

The grand jury is expected to hear the case in August.
