RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield Animal Services, Richmond Animal Care and Control, Goochland Animal Shelter, Powhatan Animal Control and Henrico Animal Protection have teamed up in a cooperative effort to celebrate those who have served our country. Each agency will offer free adoptions of dogs and cats to veterans the week of November 9 through November 15.
“It is our hope that through this cooperative effort we can match Veterans with homeless animals giving each the companionship they deserve,” a press release about the adoption event reads.
Each animal adopted will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Some will also have microchips along other services.
This venture was made possible by many local businesses and organizations. Ring Dog Rescue, Gracie’s Guardians, Canine Adventure, Annabelle’s Second Chance, Dogtopia of Chesterfield, Chop Suey Book’s, Belly Timber Tavern, En Su Boca, The Galster Agency, Fetch A Cure, Tails & Trails and the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, have all generously donated funds to ensure each animal adopted during this event has its adoption fee and basic medical fees waived.
Each individually support the adoption of sheltered animals.
“Companion pets help people, military veterans included, in various ways and through many life stages. Among well-established physical benefits are lower cholesterol, blood pressure and triglyceride levels, while emotional impacts include fewer feelings of loneliness and depression.”
Each participating agency will be open for their normal operating hours, and all policies of that agency apply. Below you’ll find information for each agency with the week’s hours, address and contact information.
