RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A weather system moving through the Carolinas has pushed rain into central Virginia this morning.

The rain has spread north to Richmond and Ashland but will have a tough time to move farther north. In fact, mainly cloudy skies will be the rule today for Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Louisa and all areas to the north and northwest. However, as you head south of Petersburg we will see rain, steady to heavy at times throughout the day. Rain fall amounts will range from nearly a hundredth of an inch in Ashland to over an inch or so along Virginia-North Carolina Line. Clouds and rain will move out later tonight, after midnight, but our skies will remain mostly cloudy into the Tuesday morning commute.

During Tuesday, our skies will become partly sunny with highs near 70.

Wednesday will be mild day with highs around 70, but a weak weather impulse will give us a few clouds mixing with the sunshine and even the chance of a shower or two.

Thursday will feature partly sunny skies and it will be mild with highs in the middle 70s.

A few more clouds will come in on Friday with highs near 80. Our next weather system will push in later Friday night and last through Saturday. This will bring us some rain during the day.

Behind that system it will be sharply colder for Sunday with highs in the lower 50s.
