RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Williamsburg family is grieving after a 22-year-old mother of two died in a crash early Sunday morning.
State police say Shelby L. Pressley was driving home around at roughly 4:39 a.m. on Sunday when her SUV flipped on 64 east and fell between an opening on a bridge. The vehicle fell about 60 feet. Pressley was pronounced died at the scene.
Pressley’s boyfriend, Joshua Abney, had serious injuries but survived.
Pressley lived in Williamsburg and was a cheerleading coach for a local middle school. Family members say Pressley’s love for cheerleading started in her high school days.
That’s also where Pressley met her high school sweet heart, Gregory Pressley. The two later got married and have a daughter together, but even though they were separated at the time of the crash, their daughter was their common bond.
“She was very confident with everything that she did,” Gregory Pressley said. “She was a great mother, the best. She always put her daughter and her son first with everything.”
Shelby Pressley also had a four month old son with her current boyfriend, Abney. She came from a large family, which includes four girls and a brother, now the family is pulling together in this difficult time.
“She was a terrific mom and a terrific daughter and my best friend. She is just an amazing amazing girl,” says Lisa Matykowski, Shelby Pressley’s mother.
The family has also set up a GoFundMe account to assist with funeral expenses and to support Shelby Pressley’s two young kids. If you’d like to donate, click here.
State police are still investigating what caused Shelby Pressley’s SUV to crash on 64 east near Mechanicsville Turnpike.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at Nelson’s Funeral home in Williamsburg.
