HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police arrested a Henrico father for allegedly driving drunk with his child in the back seat.

Officers say the 32-year-old dad was so impaired, he drove the wrong way down the street and crashed into another driver.

According to court records, Padam Khadka’s blood alcohol level was more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit when he crashed at the intersection of Skipwith and Broad Street. An officer at the scene smelled alcohol on his breath and noted that Khadka had red, watery eyes.

The impact sent four people to the hospital, including Khadka’s seven year old child who was in the backseat. Fortunately, the injuries were minor.

Now, the 32-year-old father faces charges of DUI and felony child abuse for allegedly showing a reckless disregard for the life of his child. Khadka was in Henrico District Court on Tuesday morning after spending the night in jail. A judge granted Khadka a $1000 bond.

Police continue to stress just how dangerous it is to get behind the wheel when you’ve been drinking, even if you think you’re OK.

“Drinking and driving at any time is not a good idea no matter how much you’ve had to drink,” says Lieutenant Chris Eley, “Even though you may not be legally intoxicated, it does impair your judgment and your reaction time.”
