St. Edward-Epiphany School students raise money for Alzheimer’s, shave teacher’s head

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Students at St. Edward-Epiphany School in Richmond shaved their teacher’s head Wednesday in support of the Richmond Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

For the last three years, teacher Chris Maher has challenged the students to raise at least $1,000 in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. If they reach the goal, Maher promised his students that they could cut his hair any way they wanted.

So far this year, the students, parents and faculty at the school have donated close to $8,000 — far exceeding the amount needed for Maher’s haircut.

Alzheimer’s has been a part of his wife’s family for many years. Their journey began with the passing of her grandmother. Alzheimer’s continues to be a part of their lives today. Maher’s hair cut challenge is in honor of his father-in-law, who also has the disease.

This year marks the third year of the hair cut for Alzheimer’s challenge.

Way to go!
