RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Are you looking for a movie to see this weekend? Here’s a look at what’s new at the box office.
James Bond is back in “Spectre.” For this outing, 007, once again played by Daniel Craig, is on a mission after a clue from his past resurfaces. He’s hunting down members of a shadowy organization that’s trying to destabilize free countries across the globe. The film costars Christoph Waltz as the man pulling the strings. Directed by Sam Mendes and co-starring Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris, it’s rated pg-13. (Sam Mendes also directed “SkyFall”, the highest grossing Bond movie.)
Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the peanuts gang are getting the big screen treatment this weekend. “The Peanuts Movie” finds the squiggly comic book characters getting an upgrade to 3-D computer animation. Charlie Brown has fallen hard for the new girl in school. Snoopy is still fighting the good fight in the skies over world war one France. Lucy, Linus, Sally, and Schroeder, Peppermint Patty and Pigpen are all here too. Relatives of “Peanuts” creator Charles Schulz came up with the concept for the film, it is rated G. (The movie features a soundtrack with new songs, but also preserves the Vince Guaraldi score that made the holiday specials so memorable. November marks the 50th Anniversary of the TV special “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”)
On home video this weekend, “Inside Out” is an animated adventure that takes place inside one young girl’s brain. Her different emotions are represented by wacky characters who work to keep her brain in balance. As she hits puberty, things get all out of whack, and the world her emotions know will never be the same. Featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Lewis Black and Bill Hader as the voices in her head, this is a hilarious and heartfelt examination of the human brain. I think the film should be required viewing in all psychology classes. It breaks the brain down into laymen’s terms. It is another instant classic from the talented artists at Pixar. It’s worth a look on DVD or streaming services.
