RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Saturday morning the 8News team along with many of you also braved the rain for a great cause at the ballpark warming party.
Hundreds of coats were collected today during what is really the kick off to the coats for kids campaign.
“Rain Smain… Richmonders are incredibly generous and a couple drops of water are not going to stop folks from giving coats to area kids in need,” said Juan Conde, 8 News Anchor.
Wiser words may have never been spoken before. Richmond, you didn’t let a few fall showers stop you from coming out in big numbers today to help area families have a warm fall and winter.
“Its really awesome it shows that you care about people and care about the things they need cause some people may not be able to buy coats,” said Madeline Ellis, who donated a coat.
Ellis was apart of a group that brought over 200 coats today. Coats that will go a long ways to help families right here in RVA. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help from puritan cleaners who will professionally clean all the coats before giving them to the salvation army.
“So happy to help with this coats for kids program. The salvation Army just with the coats for kids serves 9,000 families h ere in the richmond community and that is about 17,000 people that are affected with a warm coat,” asid Gary Glover with Puritan Cleaners.
But if you missed out today there are still plenty of opportunities to get to donate to a great cause.
“If you didn’t make it today, that’s ok, we’re visiting area schools were coming to your neighborhoods, every puritan cleaners is collecting coats, you can get involved, there is still plenty of time and without your help it doesn’t work,” said Conde
