DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police say a pursuit was the reason all northbound lanes of Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie were shut down on Monday.
The lanes on I-85 north have since reopened.
Authorities say when they attempted a traffic stop, the female behind the wheel entered I-85, initiating a pursuit. Police from Brunswick and Dinwiddie both got involved. Stop-spike strips were deployed on 85 near mile marker 52. The driver busted one tired when she drove through them, but continued forward until her car caught fire. The fire was extinguished and the driver got out of the car without injury.
Police say she was a wanted subject and had outstanding warrants. She was taken into custody and is being booked at the Meherrin Regional Jail. She’s charged with driving a vehicle with no license plates and additional charges are pending.
