WTNH)– While the national debate over use of the Confederate flag continues, Warner Bros. has decided to stop selling merchandise from the “The Dukes of Hazzard” featuring the flag.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products has announced they will stop licensing toy cars and models of the General Lee from the popular television show, with the Confederate flag on its roof.
Warner Bros. told Entertainment Weekly in a statement that read:
“Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the confederate flag on its roof — as it was seen in the TV series. We have elected to cease the licensing of these product categories.”
“The Dukes of Hazzard” television show ran on CBS from 1979 to 1985 and the reruns can still be seen on TV. There also was a 2005 movie based on the show starring Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson.
This isn’t the first time the Confederate flag on the General Lee has been in the news. Back in 2012 there was a rumor that it would be removed from the famous car, but Warner Bros shot that down.
Warner Bros. isn’t the only company changing things to exclude the Confederate flag. Walmart, Amazon, eBay have all stopped selling Confederate flag merchandise and political leaders in some states like South Carolinaare pushing to have the flag removed from the state capitol.
