RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Women videotaped and watched in their own homes. Those are just some of the reported incidents that have residents near VCU on edge.
Imagine you are in your home late at night, assuming you are alone. Come to find out someone else is there. It happened three times within hours of each other Monday night into Tuesday morning.
“That’s really scary,” said Kendall Wolfe, who lives in the area.
The first incident happened Monday night at 9:58 in the 1300 block of Floyd Avenue. A woman called police saying a man had broken into her home and started filming her. He then ran out a back exit. And then just an hour later in the 1000 block of Park avenue …
“I rolled over and someone had been standing outside my bedroom window,” said a VCU student who wished not to be identified.
This VCU student who wishes not to be identified says when she saw the man standing there he took off running.
“I was just scared and I yelled for my roommate to come and to help me make sure there was nobody still standing there,” said the student.
Scared to even go outside at night, the next morning the student walked out to find evidence that someone was up to no good.
“There were foot steps and somebody had been standing like directly outside my window,” said the student.
But the night wasn’t over yet. Six hours later just a few blocks away, another girl awoke to find who she thought was her roommate coming into her room, but quickly realized it was a man with a flashlight walking towards her. This was in the 1500 block of Leigh Street. The girl told the man to get out and he took off out of the building. Other residents in the area say they are being more cautious since the incidents.
“Even just being in a room with a window in general I’ll be looking over my shoulder,” Marissa Resmini, who lives in the area.
Police are stepping up patrols in this area and they are encouraging anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 9-1-1.
