MOUNTAIN VIEW (KRON) — Mountain View police did not pull over any ordinary car Thursday afternoon.

Police stopped a Google self-driving car because it was driving too slow — not too fast. Police said they were patrolling the area around El Camino Real when they noticed a traffic backup.

Officers said the car was traveling 24 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone which caused a backup. After the vehicle was pulled over, officers realized it was a Google autonomous vehicle,  which can only go up to 25 miles per hour for safety reasons.

Police said the car’s speed was legal, and they wanted to make sure it was operating properly.
