RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – A big donation came to area, and thanks to it our kids are going to be a little warmer. Ukrops Dress Express donated more than 1,000 coats for elementary school kids Thursday.
Ukrop’s Dress Express (UDE) is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of custom uniform apparel.
This is the first time they do the “Coats 4 Kids” initiative. They have paired up with Communities in Schools, Richmond and Chesterfield County to find those kids that come from needy families that may need extra help.
Leaders say 40 coats will be donated to each of the elementary schools taking part. They will have a coat bank for extra coats they can use for families or kids in need during the winter months.
Ukrops Dress Express officials say these jackets are water resistant, fleece lines, great quality and comfortable.
Jessica Smith, the program director for elementary schools with Communities in Schools says sometimes, not having a warm jacket will prevent kids from going to school, from learning and really achieving in the classroom,
“If we can identify the needs, such as a coat, then that might get students coming to school more or a more consistent basis,” she said.
The coats will be distributed to those elementary school kids within the next few days.
