HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County fire crews knocked out a fire at the Faison School for Autism on Byrd Avenue near West Broad Street early Friday morning. Battalion Chief Robert Woods says a backup power source caught fire in a first-floor utility room. That activated the building’s alarm system.
It all happened around 1:50 a.m. Friday morning.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke in the building and worked to keep it from spreading. Woods says the biggest challenge with a building the size of the Faison School is making sure they check every part of every floor as quickly as possible to ensure the building is empty.
Nobody was in the school at the time of the fire.
Faison School’s main building at 1701 Byrd Ave. will be closed Friday. Other locations will be open.
