RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police arrested a convicted sex offender Monday after he showed up at a daycare facility to pick up his daughter.
Trooper T.M. Hall and Sgt. M.H. Hamer arrested 34-year-old Duane C. Griffin of Richmond without incident on one felony charge of prohibited entry onto school or other property.
“The Virginia State Police Sex Offender Investigative Unit received a tip about Griffin making routine visits to and from the daycare facility with his young daughter. State police followed up on the information and found Griffin to be in direct violation of state law that prohibits convicted violent sex offenders from entering any school property as cited in Code of Virginia 18.2-370.5,” state police said in a press release.
Griffin was convicted in 1999 for attempted rape and aggravated sexual battery in Henrico County, according to the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. He is currently out on bail.
