RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two months of planning and donations, all to ensure people in Fairfield Court have a happy Thanksgiving, were all wiped away in the dead of night when thieves broke into the upstairs window of the Fairfield Community Association.and stole 12 of 13 turkeys, along with all the trimmings.
“I had a box that I had fixed for an elderly lady here…they took that,” said Joanne Towles, President of the Fairfield Tenant Council Office.
The thieves took off, leaving the back door wide open.
Vice Secretary, Deborah Turner says she was alerted this morning by a next door neighbor of the break in. It’s a disheartening act for those at Fairfield Court simply trying to bring some holiday cheer to those in need. She says, “We just want everybody to enjoy themselves and have a happy thanksgiving because it’s kind of hard now because people do not have.”
Though the turkey theft has made a huge dent in their supply, the Fairfield Community Association has handed out close to 20 turkey boxes already. As for those responsible, Turner says if they needed turkeys, all they had to do was ask.
“I think that’s a shame when all they had to do was knock on the door and say they didn’t have a turkey or tell us what they need..because a whole lot came with stuffing and taters and giving to people that need,” said Turner.
Thankfully, more turkey donations are expected tomorrow. If you have any information about the break in please Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
