Police lD victim in fatal Jahnke Rd. crash, recover vehicle that fled scene

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police need your help finding the driver that took off after a fatal crash in south Richmond Wednesday night.

One person was killed and four others were seriously injured in the multi-vehicle accident.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Jahnke and Newell Roads. The crash left a red Toyota sedan in a ditch and a maroon Suzuki SUV overturned.

According to Major Steve Drew with Richmond Police, multiple people were trapped inside the overturned SUV when police arrived. The driver of the SUV, 74-year-old Della L. Fields of the 100 block of East 36th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The lone occupant inside the Toyota sedan was also transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

A suspected third vehicle – a gold, four-door sedan, possibly a Dodge Intrepid – that was believed to have been involved in the accident and fled has been recovered and is being processed by investigators.
