RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — An unsettled end of the week is on tap for us here in Central Virginia, with the potential for some severe weather tonight and a good probability of a soaking rain to start off the weekend.

Tonight, expect showers and thunderstorms as a system slides by to the north of us.  Most of this will be in the evening hours until just after midnight.  Some of the storms could have some strong damaging winds associated with them. Overnight lows will fall back into the lower 70s.

Friday will be partly sunny with isolated afternoon storms.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Friday night through Saturday a rather vigorous storm at upper levels of the atmosphere will cross into the region from the west. This will make showers likely over us and could give many people and inch or more of rainfall. Lows will be in the lower 70s and highs will be anywhere from 80-84 on Saturday. (Far Southside Virginia might get a little warmer than that).

The good news is that this system will exit off the coastline by Sunday morning, taking the rainfall with it. Sunday should end up being a nicer day, but on the cool side as highs will only reach into the lower 80s.

Next week we will have a gradual return of temperatures to the upper 80s and lower 90s.  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will feature the possibility of thunderstorms returning to the area.
