Flying Squirrels announce plans to improve The Diamond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — On Thursday, the Richmond Flying Squirrels announced multiple upgrades to The Diamond to “enhance fan experience for the 2016 season.”

Some of the improvements include a brand new party deck, with a bar and rail top seating, which will be installed down the right field line. The elevated gathering place will feature high top tables with a clear view of the field and will be open to all fans (21 and older) at no additional cost throughout the course of each game, the Squirrels said in a press release.

The Squirrels are also upgrading concourse and gate lighting for better visibility, improving the Kids Zone with more fun and games, making concessions menu boards electronic and repainting the scoreboard.

“It is in the Flying Squirrels DNA to continue to improve the Diamond, improve our operation and give back to our fans and the community,” said Flying Squirrels Chief Executive Chuck Domino. “Under no circumstances will that philosophy change.”

All ticket prices will remain the same for the 2016 season.

“We continue to be committed to our fans, our sponsors and Greater Richmond as a whole to give them a product that they can be proud of,” said Flying Squirrels President & Managing General Partner Lou DiBella.

The Flying Squirrels are also continuing efforts year-round to impact the community, including the Renovating Richmond’s Recreation program, which is designed to overhaul dilapidated baseball facilities within the city. As part of the program, eight new dugouts have been constructed and completed at four Richmond youth baseball fields as part of a 16 field renovation project within the city. The initial dugouts have been completed at the Hotchkiss & Westover park facilities with more on the way.

The Squirrels have worked closely with the City of Richmond, Barton Malow, Hardesty Roofing and Liberty Roofing Center to facilitate the first phase of the project with funds being raised throughout the year through Flying Squirrels Charities. “Our ownership and staff are committed to giving the fans something new each year to keep our relationship stimulated and fresh,” said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd ‘Parney’ Parnell. “Our fans deserve it and we are excited about what we have planned for them in 2016.”
