CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Thousands of people sacrificed sleep for shopping as they took advantage of big Black Friday sales.
Dustin Jones lined up at 6 a.m. outside of a Best Buy store in Chesterfield.
But he wasn’t alone and he wasn’t the first.

“There was a girl laying out in a sleeping bag earlier trying to get a TV and I thought that’s a little extreme,” says Jones.
When the doors opened, crowds rushed the electronics.
One guy was so elated to find what he wanted, he did a little happy dance.
Across the street at Chesterfield Towne Center, 8News found three friends who shopped overnight and into the early morning.
Aaron Smith explains they were “mostly trying to avoid crazy people and get a couple of deals on some good winter stuff.”
Black Friday is golden for retailers.
Stores offer huge discounts, doorbusters and deals to shoppers who go all out to get the best prices.
According to Adam Krovic, a manager at Macy’s, “What were trying to do is create an experience that draws them in that’s bigger than the product. So they want to come in to experience what Macy’s is about at the holidays and once they’re here they’re finding something that works for them.”
A mother and daughter-in-law duo from Lawrenceville has been shopping Black Friday for more than 20 years.
It’s their little tradition that typically pays off big.
“There are bargains out there you, you just have to look for them,” insists Judy Clary.
And Becky Farmer adds, “Just go with a plan. Just make your list of names and go through the sale papers and circle the things you want to get and pick them up as quick as you can.”
If you missed out on the Black Friday fun, don’t worry you can still score some deals. Plenty of bargains will be offered on Small Business Saturday and on Cyber Monday.
